Location: 915 Olentangy River Road

Purpose:  Working within our Ophthalmology Clinic at the OSU Eye and Ear Institute and our outlying clinic in Dublin, the Ophthalmic Assistant facilitates high quality, accurate and compassionate care in a diverse patient population.

An Ophthalmic Assistants display a high proficiency performing Visual Fields and Computer Imaging along with willingness to adapt to an evolving job description and expand responsibilities as the company grows.

Primary Responsibilities – may include the following:

  • Interacts professionally and compassionately with patients daily
  • Performs diagnostic Visual Field Testing: Humphrey, Octopus and Goldman Fields
  • Clinical Competence of Ophthalmic Imaging: OCT, HRT, Pachymetry, Topography and IOL Master
  • Enters information into Electronic Medical Record
  • Transports patients within the facility to additional departments
  • Assists with rooming patients
  • Stocks and disinfects examination rooms
  • Provides assistance for Physicians and Ophthalmic Technicians in the Ophthalmology clinic
  • Assists in coordination of research studies
  • Properly assists physically or visually disabled patients
  • Initiates patients exams and prepares patients for physician appointments
  • Documents medical history, symptoms, complaints and medications
  • Completes medical forms
  • Performs related patient service when necessary and as requested
  • Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in an Ophthalmic Clinic setting 
  • Knowledge of Ophthalmic terminology and testing required
  • Work effectively with individuals and team
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records preferred
  • Evidence of organizational and problem solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrative effectiveness in conveying information both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of job responsibilities and uses appropriate knowledge and skills to effectively complete work.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.  Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Communicates and reports to the Ophthalmic Supervisor
