Position Purpose:   

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides skilled nursing services to patients in the, LLC, under the direction of a professional medical doctor, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant, and provides a variety of related services to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.  Administers nursing procedures to patients in accordance with patient's nursing care plans, such as sterile dressings, soaks, compresses, enemas, suppositories, oxygen therapy, catheterization, diabetic care, and pre and post-operative care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Observe patients and reporting changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.
  2. Administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, and note times and amounts on patients' charts.
  3. Answer patients' calls and determine how to assist them.
  4. Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration.
  5. Provide basic patient care and treatments, such as dressing wounds, giving enemas, alcohol rubs, and performing catheterizations.
  6. Assemble and use equipment such as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen suppliers.
  7. Collect samples such as blood, urine and sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
  8. Prepare patients for examinations, tests and treatments and explain procedures.
  9. Sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave.
  10. Assist physicians and office staff with scheduling appointments, keep records and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
  11. Set up equipment and prepare medical treatment rooms for new patients.
  12. Maintains and stocks inventory of office and/or clinical supplies, as well as maintain inventory and requisition of supplies and instruments.
  13. Educates patients regarding health-related issues.
  14. Coordinates labeling, delivery, and receipt of laboratory specimens and results; provides information and coordinates follow-up visits regarding laboratory results.
  15. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
  16. Assists doctors, registered nurses, and therapists with examinations, treatments, special tests, and procedures.
  17. Reviews patient charts, checks patients in, rooms patients, obtain and record patients' vital signs, and medical history, and assesses reasons for patient visits.
  18. Identifies and/or communicates any safety issues for the clinical equipment, building, follows-up to ensure completion.
  19. Records and reports observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patients' conditions.
  20. Role may include assisting the provider with real-time documentation of each patient’s medical chart during his or her appointment. 
  21. Performs other related duties as required.  This position may be assigned to special projects or accountabilities when other priorities are identified.
  22. Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other IM clinical facilities


  • Requires a High School diploma and graduate of an accredited school of nursing; two or more years of experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skill in performing clinical and medical procedures.
  • Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of appropriate procedures and standards for the administration of medications and patient care aids.
  • Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
  • Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Demonstrative effectiveness in conveying information both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of job responsibilities and uses appropriate knowledge and skills to effectively complete work.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.  Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrates courtesy to others and promotes mutual respect.
